A sailor went to sea, sea, sea... You know the rest! We decided that the pirates would need some time out from all that rowing so we rehearsed a traditional hand clapping game and even worked on a few new moves!

The children are true explorers of the New World ... They loved hardtack and asked for seconds, I'm unsure if they could eat it day in and out after days and weeks at sea! I think the contrast of bananas came as a welcome relief to the early explorers on encountering the Americas.

We have been telling the time in school this week.  We have tried really hard to tell the time in words, 12 hour and 12 hour time.

With more practice at home we could be telling the time by Christmas!

Christopher Columbus ate a diet of hardtack biscuits when exploring the world. This comprised of flour and water. Some biscuits have been known to last up to 50 years in an airtight box. The children have used this traditional historical recipe to create their hardtack ready for pirate day…

The children excitedly looked at each other's learning logs, children supported each other and asked each other how they had discovered new facts. Thank you for everyone's support with their child's learning log it has really enhanced our learning in class.
