Amelia and Benjamin! Miss Clegg and I are very proud of you.
Mount Krakatoa, Mount St. Helen's, Popocatépetl are indeed active volcanoes.
The island of Surtsey was formed when an underwater volcano erupted in 1963.
This link will show you how it was formed. If the link doesn't work, click here:

The United Kingdom is not built upon a volcano - in fact we don't have active or dormant volcanoes at all in our country! We do, however, have a number of extinct volcanoes.
I am wondering if you could:
* tell me what active, dormant and distinct volcanoes are
* find out where we can find extinct volcanoes in our country

Hi Miss Kinsey and Miss Clegg
Benjamin has created a volcano and we've watched it erupt! He then told me about volcanoes! Element are sleeping volcanoes, extinct are volcanoes that have erupted but won't anymore and active volcanoes are ones that will erupt at some point! When explaining this he was very serious :-) xx we will watch the link next. He also said he will draw a picture of a volcano and then write a story about one. He has also enjoyed cosmic kids yoga this morning!

I bet that you both had a lot of fun doing that! Have you tried adding a mentos mint to a bottle of diet coca-cola? It's brilliant fun - just make sure that you are outside!
That sounds like a brilliant plan - you can always email me a copy of his work.
Cosmic Kids are great :)

Benjamin says there are active volcanoes in Hawaii, New Zealand and Iceland! There are two extinct volcanoes in Edinburgh, Scotland, one is Aurther's Seat and the other is castle rock underneath Edinburgh ???? Castle!

Benjamin has been a busy bee - well done you!
I find it fascinating that there used to be (albeit an incredibly long time ago) active volcanoes in our tiny country.
