The homes in 1666 had been constructed using timber frames and wattle and daub techniques which sometimes contained cow poo. The homes had been built too close together and the warm summer and stong winds added to why the fire spread so quickly, a spark even set alight the storage containers filled with brandy on the banks of the Thames!
