Marked in over 100 countries across the globe, World Book Day is a UNESCO initiative that aims to celebrate both books and reading, especially among younger members of our societies. In the UK and Ireland, National Book Tokens are sent out so that children can find a book of their very own – something to unlock the power of their minds in a way that the increasing prevalence of digital screens may not provide. This year St Stephen's will be joining in the global fun! It would be fabulous if your child could join in with this event by dressing as a book character for the day. Costumes do not need to be bought and there are lots of simple ideas online that could be adapted to suit your child. As part of the day the children will be enetering a national handwriting competition alongside compiling non chronological reports based on their character. To help out with this aspect of the day it would be useful if the child knew the title of the book and the name of the author who created the character that they have brought to life on the day.
