We had a great day at Martin Mere!

To begin we had a lesson with Chris, we talked about the water cycle and we pretended to be water in the ocean that evaporated and travelled over a mountain and rained back into rivers that led back into the oceans.

After Chris had talked about the water cycle works he conducted an experiment and made a cloud in a bottle.  We added air into a bottle with a small amount of water in, we used a tyre pump to add as much air as we could.  When we removed the air pump we were amazed to see a cloud form inside the bottle!

Following this we went outside to perform our own investigation to what happened to water on different surfaces.  We poured a small amount of water onto gravel, tarmac, grass and soil and observed what happened to the water.  We then shared our results and discussed how we could make it a fair test.

Later in the day we went around the reserve to look at the different birds and animals.  We saw otters, flamingos and many other species of birds.  We went into a nature hide and watched a bank of swans in their natural habitats before they fly to Iceland for the summer.

After looking at the animals and birds we went to the den building area and the Eco Garden. We were very impressed with their Eco Garden and will definitely be taking some of their ideas back to school.

I think it is safe to say everyone had a fantastic day (thanks to the weather staying dry and sunny!)
