Topic Challenges

This term our topic challenge is called The Industrial Revolution. This is a local history based topic where we will be learning about what life life used to be like in Kearsley.  We will examine old maps to determine what industries there used to be and how this influenced the growth of Kearsley and on the role that the children and their families would have played.  We will learn about the Unity Brook disaster and impact that the disaster had for local families and our local church.  We will also study the book Fair's Fair by Leon Garfield as well as Oliver Twist and other stories set in this period of our history within our English lessons.  To link with this, we will be developing our scientific knowledge and understanding about nutrition and of forces, especially friction.

Class Novel

Following popular request by the children, we are now reading the Iron Woman by Ted Hughes. This is the sequel to the Iron Man which we thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning about in Autumn term.
