Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Our teacher in Year 2 is Mrs Faulkner.  Our Teaching Assistant is the lovely Mrs Robinson.  We do lots of fun, exciting things in Year 2 which incorporate all aspects of the curriculum.  Please look on our blog to see what we have been doing.

We also have our own Learning Wall - see link below. We use the resources on the Wall to research out topics and curriculum work in school. Please use these resources at home to further develop your child's learning.

Topic Challenges

Our Topic Challenge for this half term is ...'What can we learn from the Fantastic Four?'  We will explore different materials, their properties and their uses.  This topic will be filled with lots of scientific experiments, giving the children lots of opportunities for hands on learning linked to our Fantastic Four superheroes. Hopefully we will have time to visit The World of Glass to take an indepth look at why  glass is a fabulous material linking this to learning about the Invisible Woman. The learning wall ( as always ) also has useful activities to support your childs learning in school and it is a great way for your child to do some pre learning or extension learning. I regularly update this to support our current topics in class.

Our Class Novel

We are reading Winnie the Witch books by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul. Try and look out for other books written by these authors and bring them into class. Are all the books written by these authors fictional? Can you find any books by these authors at our school library? Have you read any other books by this author?

Our Chosen Reading Scheme

Over the years, Oxford Reading Tree has taught millions of children to read... and to love to read. Rooted in reading for pleasure and with systematic phonics at its heart, its well-loved characters, breadth and unrivalled support give children everything they need to become confident readers. There are over 800 books which provide a rich and varied choice of writing styles, genres and artwork styles at every level.
